Sensor IDs on Ford Banded Sensors

Ford maintains tight tolerances on the sensor IDs for their vehicles’ TPMS systems.

For the cars & trucks that come equipped with OEM banded sensors, the ID must start with either a 1 or a 2.
If a different ID is programmed into the aftermarket sensor, then the vehicle won’t recognize the new sensor during the TPMS relearn process. i.e. the horn won’t beep when activating the sensor when the vehicle is in TPMS relearn mode.

In order to ensure a smooth process when registering new TPMS sensors, techs have a couple options: use the TPMS tool’s Copy ID option when programming sensors, or check the ID on an OE sensor. The sensor ID can be obtained by testing the sensor or by inspecting the case – the ID is printed into the plastic. The ID that the tool generates during sensor programming should start with the same number as the OE part.
