Servicing TPMS Sensors

Most OEM TPMS sensors for passenger cars & light trucks are one of two types – clamp-in and snap-in. Clamp-in sensors have metal valves, snap-ins utilize rubber ones.

While the sensors are attached to the valve-stem ends and stay inside the tires, the valves are visible outside the vehicle and so are exposed to various conditions – atmospheric gases (nitrogen, oxygen & carbon dioxide), temperature variations (cold weather / hot weather), road salt, and moisture (rain, mud puddles in roads, etc). Also the grommets on metal valves and rubber on snap-in valves are subjected to compressive force.

Since the valve stems and valve components are exposed to the elements, a new service kit or valve kit should be installed whenever a tire is serviced – flat repair, replacing tires, installing new wheels, etc.

Alligator offers service kits and valve kits for the various types of OE sensors that are utilized by today’s vehicles.
Replacing the TPMS sensor’s valve components (nut, grommet, cap & core) or rubber stem when servicing tires will ensure that the sensor/valve unit maintains a tight fit to the wheel without leaks.
