When is a TPMS relearn needed?
– When rotating tires or installing new sensors
How to clone OE sensors?
– Use the TPMS tool’s Copy ID menu when programming a new sensor
– Find the original sensor’s ID on the part case then use the Manual ID menu on tool for sensor programming
How to perform a TPMS relearn?
– BMW: automatic learning
– Fiat-Chrysler: automatic learning
– Ford: manual learning
– GM: manual learning
– Japanese & Korean vehicles: OBD learning
– Mercedes: automatic learning
– Other German vehicles (Audi, VW, etc): automatic learning
– Suzuki: manual learning
TPMS warning light is on after a relearn
– Test the sensors again or drive the vehicle for a few minutes
Relearn tips
– When testing sensors, point the tool’s antenna at the tire sidewall above valve stem
– If horn doesn’t beep when testing sensors during a manual relearn, roll the windows down or drive vehicle forward a few feet
– OBD learning – make sure ignition is off before connecting the TPMS tool to vehicle’s diagnostic port
– Automatic learning – park the vehicle for 20 minutes before driving
– GM vehicles – an OEM keyfob is required to put vehicle into relearn mode
Can’t register new sensors on a Toyota via OBD
– Try unlocking the system first
Are TPMS sensors needed for vehicles with indirect systems?
– No, those cars use wheel-speed sensors to indirectly measure tire pressure
How to service a TPMS sensor?
– metal stems: install a new nut, grommet, core & cap
– rubber stems: install a new rubber valve
